Botrytis Riesling 2021

The vineyard parcel for the Botrytis Riesling almost chooses itself, situated on a gentle westerly slope with trees providing shelter on three sides and a dam forming the border at the base of the vineyard. These factors lead to humid and still conditions with morning fogs that are perfect for the development of botrytis cinerea.

The Details

Tasting Note Light gold with green-gold tints. Subtle and delicate aromas of white flowers, cumquat, hints of nutmeg and cardamom. These aromas will develop more complexity and richness over time moving to beeswax, marmalade, and candied citrus zest.
Best Enjoyed With A lovely aperitif with paté or equally enjoyable at the end of a meal with a cheese plate or dessert; roasted pears with walnut and ginger.
Treatment The botrytised grapes were selectively handpicked with the fruit showing pure finesse, richness and balance. The grapes were whole bunch pressed and the juice given a cool, even fermentation to ensure the retention of the pure fruit characters.

Accolades

A clean, precise bolt of pure botrytis fruit and spice
The tightrope walk and tension between fruit sweetness and acidity is delicious and fascinating in equal measure here, with characters of lime-edged apricot drops, lemon barley, dried honey, gingerbread and a dusting of soft spice and jasmine. Floral and head-spinningly pure on the palate, with nary a hint of cloying. A clean, precise bolt of pure botrytis fruit and spice on the finish lingers beautifully.
Dave Brookes

This is luscious, yet fresh
Aromas of ripe peach and dried apricot abound, with orange marmalade and a juicy, fleshy palate that carries a lot of flavor. This is luscious, yet fresh. 155 grams per liter of residual sugar and plenty of acidity. Drink now. Screw cap.
Nick Stock

Pulses with energy, elegance and balance
Straw gold colour. Fresh and rich signature apricot flesh, lemon curd, gun flint, nutmeg brown spice, pawpaw, cumquat orange citrus and lime sorbet. Vibrant, crisp and exciting. Acidity drives like a spike through opulent (but not corpulent) stone fruit flesh and light honeycomb. Pulses with energy, elegance and balance.
