“One of the things I love most is seeing people come together over a bottle of decent wine. Whether it's a long lunch with family, a relaxed dinner with friends or an afternoon spent soaking up the spring sunshine, great wine has a way of bringing people together.”
Marc van Halderen, Winemaker
From the beginning, Chardonnay and Riesling have been at the heart of Heggies Vineyard. Our high-altitude, cool-climate estate in Eden Valley provides the perfect conditions for both varieties to thrive, so it gives us great pleasure to introduce the newest addition to the Heggies Vineyard collection, Cloudline Riesling 2026.
Crafted from estate-grown fruit, our Cloudline Riesling is a fresh, contemporary expression of a High Eden Valley Riesling. The elevated slopes of Heggies Vineyard benefit from altitude, cool nights, ancient rocky soils, and low-vigour vines. Together, these conditions allow the fruit to ripen slowly and retain the vibrant citrus freshness and natural acidity that define Heggies.
Expect lifted aromas of fresh lime, lemon blossom, green apple and kaffir lime leaf lead into vibrant flavours of citrus blossom, lime zest, lemongrass, ripe green apple and white nectarine. Fine natural acidity provides balance, with a refreshing, mineral finish that lingers with citrus and stone fruit. Unoaked to preserve freshness and fruit purity, Cloudline Riesling is bright, vibrant and effortlessly refreshing.
When compared to our Estate Riesling, the Cloudline Riesling uniquely has a small addition of estate-grown Albariño. Known for its refreshing acidity, and vibrant citrus characteristics, the splash of Albariño complements the dimension of the Riesling and adds subtle texture, palate generosity and a soft, luscious mouthfeel. Emulating that signature contemporary twist expressed in our Cloudline collection, it’s an effortless, versatile Riesling perfectly suited to everyday enjoyment.
The 2026 vintage delivered Riesling of exceptional quality, with vibrant aromatics, generous flavour intensity, bright natural acidity and remarkable varietal purity. This was a result of a wet and cool start to the growing season, followed by a warm, dry summer that created steady conditions for even ripening. A sprinkle of rain before harvest allowed the grapes to continue ripening allowing the fruit to reach optimal maturity.
Cloudline Riesling is made for a long lunches or relaxed dinners this Spring and Summer. Serve it alongside fresh seafood, such as oysters, salt and pepper squid, or grilled King George whiting, or pair it with vibrant Asian inspired dishes like Vietnamese rice noodle salads or a green papaya salad. And, of course, perfect for those moments where a chilled glass of Riesling is exactly what is called for.
Our Cloudline Riesling is delicious now, but if you can resist opening the bottle, careful cellaring for 3 - 5 years will reward with further development.
